Vietnam Railways Corporation announces new luggage transport regulations effective February 2024. Each passenger may bring hand luggage up to 20kg (within specified size limits) free of charge. Oversized or excess luggage must be checked and may incur additional fees. Checked items must be securely packed and follow specific size and weight rules. Special rates apply for bicycles and motorbikes based on engine capacity. Checked luggage is charged from 1,500 to 5,000 VND/kg. Changes to destination or recipient are allowed up to 4 hours before departure.

On September 21, 2015, Vietnam Railways partnered with National Standard Finance (NSF), a leading global institution specializing in infrastructure investment and private debt solutions. NSF offers around $2 billion per project using models like PPP, DBFOT, DBOT, or BOT to finance infrastructure development. Vietnam is planning a high-speed standard-gauge rail between Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City to replace the slow existing line. A study on costs and impact will finish in two years. The current railway is outdated and slow. Though rejected in 2010 due to cost, the project aligns with regional rail plans. Funding may come from Japan and international banks. Construction could start by 2020, finishing by 2030, with speeds up to 200 km/h, rising to 350 km/h after 2050.
Vietnam Railways Innovation Award 2014 was held on September 22, 2015, attracting many employees who submitted practical projects in rolling stock, infrastructure, signal telecommunication, and IT. The award encourages creativity to improve production and management efficiency using science and technology. Eleven projects were awarded, with the first prize going to the Railways Transportation Operations Center for their freight payment statistics program. The contest started in 1991 and has been held annually since 2006.
Vietnam Railways has opened ticket sales for trains running from late summer to the end of 2024, including the National Day holiday. Due to severe flooding and landslides caused by Typhoon No. 3 in Yen Bai, SP3 and SP4 trains on the Hanoi–Lao Cai route will be suspended until September 17, 2024.
